Interesting historical features at the farm are to be seen; visitors have an opportunity to go slow in time and spend a moment observing the magnificent sixth arch sandstone bridge built in 1881, now a national monument which guards the entrance to the Toll Inn Guest Farm.
In days gone by, the road passed the front of the old hotel, (now the main residence) and the “Toll keepers” house. Once the heavily loaded wagons of the transport riders, taking their wares to the mountain districts of Hershel, Lady Grey and Barkley East and Rhodes, crossed this bridge, after spending a night at “the old Inn”. When you cross the bridge, please note; that you cross into history and towards the hospitality of bygone years.
On-site activities will enhance your adventure and stay in the natural environs of Toll Inn. We offer a wide variety of activities for the whole family, such as: Child friendly, viewpoints, parking, braai, barbeque (braai packs available on request & prior arrangement), selected DSTV channels, WIFI, billiards, fishing, hiking trails, camp site, bar, wildlife, farm animals, credit card facilities.
Birdwatching is a very popular activity in all areas of Aliwal North. It is particularly good due to the sheer variety of fauna & flora found. This variety and level of endemism of flora is mirrored in a spectacular array of birdlife.
Once you have the basics down, set off on a walk through the well known Kiepersol Mountain Route, breathing in cool, clean air while gazing at nature. Enjoy the highest spot of the property, for breath-taking views. Enjoy the “Kraai RIVER” as one takes a moment to catch one’s breath.
Finally, you can have a cool-down session before you slip into the soothing waters (dam, river or swimming pool) to soothe those tired muscles.
Conclude this unforgettable experience with a photo or even a “selfie” alongside your new friends, these precious memories are sure to be treasured for years to come.
